Science is the pursuit of understanding how God created our immense, ordered, and beautiful universe. In this class, Pastor Jerry Cooper (a Stanford University-trained scientist) explores the important relationship between faith and science from a biblical, Christian perspective. The talk explains how these two areas intersect as well as how they are different, and encourages us to think clearly about the issues. As a major example of this, Pastor Jerry addresses Creation and Evolution and offers a perspective that takes the two seriously, while affirming and critiquing the way both sides often approach the topic.

We all inherently know that human life is to be valued. The challenge is how to apply that in an imperfect world of difficult decisions. Abortion is a topic where people feel strongly on both sides of the issue. Too often people take a political position that is not well thought out, but merely toes an ideological party line based on superficial slogans that sound good. In this class, Pastor Jerry Cooper will delve into the underlying issues surrounding science, statistics, cultural context, and biblical principles that help us understand how to think both clearly and biblically. God is not unclear about how we are to think about this, and the same principles can be applied to many areas of life where we are tempted to unquestioningly take the accepted cultural perspective. We must always remember that real people are behind every discussion, so the grace and love of Jesus Christ must always go hand in hand with any declaration of God's truth that challenges us.
